Every expedition in our archive is marked Planned, Active, or Completed. We don’t have a fourth “failed” category, because in our experience an expedition that didn’t find the target phenomenon still produced a completed, useful survey — the classification describes the work, not the outcome.
Depth, location, and lead researcher are logged for every dive regardless of what was or wasn’t found, which is part of why our public archive runs larger than most people expect for a single-vessel operation.
